Already struggling to adjust to life after the death of her husband, Sophie Bryant nearly loses her own life when she attends a domestic dispute as a paramedic. Diagnosed with a mild form of PTSD, she decides a radical change is in order and accepts a posting to the remote township of Hilsons Ridge. Soon after arrival, Sophie decides to buy and move into an old house on the outskirts of town. There she discovers the diary of a WWI light horse trooper which she becomes fascinated by. Local vet, Zac Conway, is also trying to come to terms with great loss since the death of his wife. So when Sophie brings an abandoned horse into his clinic for treatment, Zac is surprised to feel emotions for her he never expected to experience again. Another relationship isn't on the radar for Sophie, but she and Zac begin falling for each other while continuing to fight their own private battles with grief and guilt.
