Summary

Jill Ker Conway grew up on a sheep station in Western New South Wales. When her brothers were away at boarding-school she became her father's station hand until drought destroyed her parent's dream and she was forced into a life of difficulty in Sydney, and ultimately on to America for her university education. This is an account of her long journey to adulthood, and the adventures of mind, body and spirit which allow her to establish an identity independent of her upbringing.
